Migratory birds project Artist CHOI SU NYEONG

Taoxichuan Ceramic Art Avenue By: null

Choi Su Nyeong's work involves joining units and layering sections to introduce layers within what is often considered empty space, there by directing the viewer's gaze inward.

The layers depicted inside reveal various appearances depending on the observer's viewpoint, the position of the work, and the lighting conditions. In our daily lives, we naturally perceive layers through computer graphics, animation, and TV subtitles. When forms existing in two dimensions are stacked and overlaid, they create complex three-dimensional shapes, presenting new dimensions of images unforeseen in a flat plane. Layers imply the infinite potential for variation in visual images and are used as sculptural elements across various fields.

People often judge objects based on their external features first, as these are what catch the eye immediately. However, the internal structure can sometimes be more significant, offering depth and variety that cannot be anticipated by the exterior alone due to changes in the observer's position and viewpoint. Artworks expressed through the layering of multiple sections create new images, and the space between these overlaid layers enhances the work's internal depth, focusing the observer's gaze inward.

When layers are presented externally, the stacked layers themselves form an independent shape. In contrast, internal layers are created to structure the interior space, displaying a differentiation between the exterior and interior within a single complete form. By crafting the exterior  as units, it allows for flexible shaping, and units forming the exterior introduce rhythm and dynamic effects.

Since internal layers are concealed by the exterior, observers are prompted to explore more deeply, as they cannot directly see the internal structure. The duality of the interior and exterior enables an extended interpretation of the internal structure, opening up endless possibilities for transformation. The interior space, not reliant on the exterior, can be expressed more broadly and diversely.

The interaction between layers, the space between stacked layers, and the internal forms represented in these spaces lead to various visual outcomes. She is enhancing her work to develop more refined and profound artworks by exploring the layering of different sections and forms. Furthermore, She is researching methods to create effects based on the interplay between the interior and exterior facilitated by layers.
