Migratory birds project Artist Kim Soon-Sik

Taoxichuan Ceramic Art Avenue By: null

Kim Soon-Sik's works are made up of two types.

The first one is FRESCO. The content of Kim Soon-Sik's mural paintings possesses the primitive and pure nature of the original cave mural paintings, where earth, water, fire (heat), natural pigments and surface textures are the important expressive elements, and the theme of the paintings is "recorded thoughts, accumulation of consciousness". The material for the frescoes is limestone, which is fired at 300 degrees centigrade in order to fix it to the picture. The firing of ceramics is conceptually the same as the firing of frescoes. From ancient cave frescoes to medieval sanctuary frescoes, Dunhuang frescoes, and Goguryeo frescoes, the fresco technique uses both wet and dry methods, making use of natural substances and various materials in ceramics, mixed with the main material, lime.

The second is blue and white porcelain. Blue and white porcelain transcends its time and has a modern feel. Symbolising hope and integrity, the blue pigment of celadon is like the Persian sky, which blossoms into a dazzling light when it meets the white porcelain of China. In this way, the history of blue and white porcelain is not only part of the modern art craft, but also part of the genes of modern people, with great influence and a medium to continue the historical tradition of ceramics. The theme of the work "Donkey" is the desire to fly in the sky,, as if the mystery of celadon white porcelain, and the dream of the donkey is also the dream of Kim Soon-Sik.
