This Salon invites Tomás Carpio, Artist-in-Residence at Taoxichechuan Art Center, to present a Salon on the theme of “The Creative Process of the Bestiary” on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 15:00, in Classroom 308, Building 3, Xiangzhangyuan, Jingdezhen Vocational University of Art.

Through his sculptures, Tomás creates new beasts, animals, and fantastic beings that evoke symbolism rooted in Andean culture and the traditions of primitive Ecuadorian culture. During the Art Salon session, the artist will present his sculptures and will give a live demonstration of his artistic creations.

“Ceramics have been a great tool that has helped medevelop a language in my plastic and sculpturalproduction, different beings have been the primary axisin my work, playful and humanized, animals that do notexist as a result of the imagination and the fabulousrepresentation of previous and ancestral cultureshallucinated and dreamed from my own perspectivedifferent packs, families and stories that coexist witheach other.”

His artistic work is characterized by it's deep connection to ceramics and his desire to preserve and honor ancestral pottery techniques from various regions of Ecuador.Over nearly two decades, he has used clay as the primary element in his artistic creation.Through his sculptures, he brings to life new bestiaries, animals, and dreamlike beings that evoke symbolism rooted in Andean culture and the traditions of the indigenous cultures of his country. His work seeks to keep oral tradition alive while also reinterpreting,reinventing, and rediscovering the primal and universal.
