Taoxichuan Art Center Lecture invited Artist-in-Residence Sarban Chowdhury to present a lecture on the theme of "A well full of ideas and clay" at 19:30 on Wednesday, 3th July 2024 at the Taoxichuan S3 Multi-media Room(2nd floor).

The lecture will be centered around Sarban’s practice in clay over the past few years. From being someone who never liked the touch of clay to transforming into an individual who cannot imagine his life anymore without ceramics, it’s been an amusement ride.

This lecture is intended to be an open and interactive sharing session, where audience are encouraged to ask questions and engage at any point.

Sarban Chowdhury

Sarban Chowdhury is a ceramist, designer & educator from India. His practice of working with clay is an everyday learning process where he relates to coping with minor and major failures in life. Ceramics as a medium teaches him to gaze at life from a different standpoint."Failure in ceramics is inevitable," whether in the early stages, during fabrication, drying or glazing and firing. Each time the kiln is opened, it may leave behind excitement, hope, or disappointment. As an artist, the material has the final say on the artist. It can be a success and a failure.

Sarban’s research explores around ecosystem centric values , geopolitical influences and psychoanalysis of the human mind in relation to their surrounding factors . Everything that he examines, observes and experiences around him somehow seeps into his subconscious mind and eventually reflects in his work.
