The TV show 2024 China Gift has spotlighted ceramics for its ongoing season, which debuted on Jiangxi Satellite TV on Wednesday.
In its first episode, anchorwoman Yang Lan serves as the host of the China Gift Workshop and has invited 12 ceramic artists to join the program to create ceramic gifts for five recipients of the China Government Friendship Award. The recipients hail from the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Egypt and Belgium.
Additionally, Shan Jixiang, former curator of the Palace Museum, Lyu Pinchang, a professor of ceramic art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, arts critic Lu Rongzhi, and Dai Yuxiang, a professor of ceramic art at the China Academy of Art, have all joined to witness the creation of the gifts and interpret the unique craftsmanship and diverse value of ceramics.

The 12 ceramic artists, coming from both domestic and international backgrounds and of varied age groups, will be divided into three teams to collaboratively create five themed ceramic gifts. These artists will gather to brainstorm and provide creative ideas for the gifts, ensuring that cultural integration is achieved and that the ceramic pieces reflect Chinese aesthetics.
Seen from the first episode, to gather inspiration for the subsequent creation of China Gift pieces, the show took 12 ceramic artists to a two-day study and team-building trip to Jingdezhen in Jiangxi province, renowned as China's "Porcelain Capital". There, the artists were challenged to create impromptu ceramic designs within 15 minutes.
