Born in Dobrich in 1987, Elizar is a Bulgarian and international visual artist. He got his education in the National Academy of Arts, Sofia, Bulgaria – Bachalaver, Master and PhD, and now he is an Associate Professor in the «Ceramic, Porcelain and Glass» department.

He has exhibited his works in Denmark, Czech Republic, Germany, Luxemburg, Belgian, Netherlands, Romania, USA, China, Australia.

I explore basic techniques of working with glass - different methods of glass casting, cold working and engraving, blown glass, free shaping of hot glass, fusing and slumping of glass and stained glass. The variety of techniques and topics provides opportunities for creative freedom and getting to know the quality and possibilities of the material. The portfolio represents works selected in a way that highlights my continuous search for new creative horizons and artistic expressions related to the specificity of glass. Mastering a variety of techniques is what I also use in my teaching.

I present works from the period 2017-2022. They have been developed in two main directions.

The first group consists of structural sculptures, distinguished by a rough external mechanical intervention on a polished surface, with which you emphasize the structures, as the main method of form building. The works are brought out through basic architectural and sculptural approaches, seeking form-forming principles and external aesthetic results. Relying on the basic artistic qualities of the material, I look for roughly applied textures that contrast with the optics, purity and transparency of the glass. The architectural principles I use in this part allow me to build formats in a logical and constructive way emphasizing the external content.

The works in the second group have a direct/plot message, with which the target accepts the viewer as an equal participant in the process. In them, the author-viewer dialogue emphasizes aestheticization and points to the content of the content of the idea. In this way, I consider existential questions and reflect on our complex being.

Some of the works presented in the portfolio have participated in representative exhibitions of the National Art Academy in Serbia, Germany and the Czech Republic. This has given me the opportunity to be part of the active artistic life of the Academy.

Of great importance for implementing a successful teaching methodology with international partnership and working with graduates. In this regard, the empirical experience I gained at the Pilchuck Glass School, the Corning Museum of Glass, and the Berengo Studio helped me to transcend the limitations of the material and to look for a solution to any technological problem.

Collaborating with authors such as Tony Cragg, Thommas Schutte, Karen Le Mont, Kai Guo-Qiang, Erwin Wurm and many other artists of the contemporary art scene allowed me to cover artistic problems of artists of the highest rank.

The numerous participations in various international symposia, plein airs, exhibitions, residencies and specializations in Europe, America and Asia allow me to synthesize what I have learned from all places and discover new creative aspects, and the acquisition of experience - to pass on to students .
