On December 17, 2024, the National Immigration Administration issued an announcement stating that the stay duration for visa-free transit foreigners in China has been extended from the original 72 hours and 144 hours to 240 hours (10 days). At the same time, 21 additional ports have been designated as entry and exit points for visa-free transit personnel, with an expansion of the designated areas for their stay and activities, and permission granted for cross-regional travel. Jiangxi has been added as a new province eligible for the 240-hour visa-free transit policy. Visa-free transit personnel can enter China through the Changbei International Airport port in Nanchang, Jiangxi, and stay and conduct activities within the specified areas (Nanchang and Jingdezhen) for no more than 240 hours (10 days).

At the Nanchang Immigration Inspection Station, the reporter observed that multiple new initiatives have been implemented to serve the new policy, including: establishing a dedicated area for processing 240-hour Visa-free Transit Services at Terminal T1 of Nanchang Changbei International Airport, setting up multilingual signage and intelligent translation devices, forming multilingual service teams in English, French, Japanese, and other languages to provide efficient services for visa-free transit passengers; Closely sharing information with major airlines and foreign-related travel agencies to collect and enter relevant information of visa-free transit passengers in advance, opening 12 manual inspection channels and 14 express inspection channels to shorten the processing time for immigration procedures; Leveraging the 12367 Immigration Management Service Platform, the "GanPo Immigration Inspection" public account, and other channels to conduct policy promotion and expand policy awareness; Collaborating with cultural tourism, commerce, and other departments to promote tourism and cuisine in Nanchang, Jingdezhen, and other places at the terminal, showcasing the city's image.

According to Xiong Zhuoyi, officer from the Nanchang Immigration Inspection Station, in 2024, the Nanchang Immigration Inspection Station recorded over 20,000 foreign national entries, marking a 315% year-on-year increase. The recent improvements and optimizations in the layout of the Visa-free Transit Area, including extending the stay duration, broadening the activity scope, and increasing interconnected regions, will further promote exchanges between Chinese and foreign personnel.
