A Millennia-Long Journey Across Jiangxi

Jiangxi, a land that has long been a cradle of cultural prosperity since ancient times. Through the ages, its ancient culture flows like an endless river, traversing the corridors of history and walking towards us step by step.

 

Looking back, the academy culture in Jiangxi shines brightly. According to the "Academies in Jiangxi Province” compiled by the Local Chronicles Office of Jiangxi Province, Jiangxi has established a total of 1959 academies in history. A total of 1,959 academies were established in Jiangxi throughout history. Turning the pages lightly, one seems to hear the resounding voices of literary giants such as Ouyang Xiu and Wang Anshi, who poured their talents into their writings, leaving behind works that have been passed down through generations, illuminating the long quest for knowledge for countless students to come.

 

This land nurtured a group of famous literati and scholars, including Tao Yuanming, Zheng Gu, and Yan Shu, whose names are forever remembered. They express themselves through writings, some finding solace in nature and pastoral life, others focusing on the minutiae of human life, or making friends from all over with poetry and wine, sparking brilliant ideas and leaving behind numerous beloved poems.

 

The traditional Chinese opera culture in Jiangxi is a vivid folk epic, with various genres such as Ganju Opera, Xuhe Opera, and Donghe Opera competing in brilliance. With unique singing styles and performances, they interpret touching stories, inherit the wisdom and emotions of the Jiangxi people, showcasing an ancient charm that leaves audiences in awe and admiration.

 

Jiangxi also has rich intangible cultural heritage. As of March 2025, Jiangxi has 88 representative national intangible cultural heritage projects and 560 provincial-level projects. There are 69 representative inheritors of national intangible cultural heritage, 611 provincial-level inheritors, and 119 provincial-level representative inheritors of Jingdezhen handmade porcelain craftsmanship. The province has three national-level cultural and ecological protection (experimental) zones, and the construction of three provincial-level cultural and ecological protection experimental zones—Luling Culture, Fuzhou Opera Culture, and Zhangshu Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture is also promoting.
