Jingdezhen Ceramics Museum was the first large-scale specialized museum open to the public since September,1955, displaying the development of Chinese ceramics. China Ceramics Museum in Jingdezhen was built on the basis of Jingdezhen Ceramics Museum and reopened to the public in 2015. The new museum covers a total area of 55,000 square meters, and a construction area of 32,000 square meters. The whole architecture is designed with very strict requirement and international standard. The museum boasts permanent exhibition halls, temporary exhibition halls, academic exchange zone, public activity zone, business lounge, multi-functional zone, storehouse, and office zone, etc. with functions and facilities to meet the demands for preservation, exhibition, research, training, and education.
The museum has collections of over 30,000 items of historical relics dating back from the New Stone Age to the Han and Tang Dynasties, among which about 500 items are National Precious Cultural Relics, representing the thousand-year long history of porcelain production in Jingdezhen. Classified in terms of the decorations, there are light-blue glaze, egg-white glaze, blue and white, famille verte, famille rose, and color glaze, etc. In terms of the shapes, there are bowls, dishes, cups, plates, pots, vases, jars, and statues, etc. In terms of the handicrafts, there are throwing, impressing, inlaying, slip casting, and machine pressing, etc. The museum also has collections from foreign countries and other regions, and collections of gilded articles, jadeware, paintings, and calligraphy. There is also a unique collection of recent and modern extraordinary pieces manufactured locally. With collections of a wide variety and top academic value, the museum can provide researchers with most reliable material objects to support their historic and cultural studies.
